I'm a few days early...but I wanted to remind you that the 151st Anniversary of the Battle of Mill Springs will be coming up soon!

The observance will be Saturday, January 19th at 1:00pm at Zollicoffer Park.  Along with the observance, I'd like to encourage you to also stop by the Mill Springs Battlefield Museum and the Mill Springs National Cemetery.  The Civil War was a bloody time in Kentucky and Mill Springs was a significant battle...you can learn more about it at the museum and on the driving tour in Nancy.

Recently, the movie "Lincoln" has brought the Civil War back to the forefront.  If your kids or grandkids have been studying the Civil War in history at school or they have seen "Lincoln" and have questions...why not take them to the local source to see and touch a piece of our state's past?

When I was a very young girl, my grandfather took me to a reenactment at Mill Springs and I developed a lifelong love of American history and especially for the Civil War-period.  You never know what you'll 'plant' in your child or grandchild's mind when you share our local historical sites with them. Give it a try!
